Crafting enthusiasts, brace yourselves for an exciting new venture on the horizon! Michaels craft store, a household name in the crafting industry, is about to unveil its latest innovation - MakerPlace. While it hasn't been released to the public just yet, the buzz surrounding this new marketplace is already spreading like wildfire.
For decades, Michaels has been the go-to destination for crafters, hobbyists, and artists alike. With a wide array of crafting supplies, inspiring workshops, and an unwavering commitment to fostering creativity, Michaels has left an undeniable mark on the crafting community.
MakerPlace is poised to take the crafting world by storm. Envisioned as a revolutionary marketplace, it promises to be a haven for handmade crafters of all kinds, from seasoned artisans to up-and-coming DIY enthusiasts. While the full details are still coming into the light, whispers from inside sources (it’s me, I’m inside sources) suggest that MakerPlace is set to offer a host of unique features that will set it apart from other craft marketplaces.
Crafters are eagerly anticipating the potential benefits of joining MakerPlace as sellers. With the backing of Michaels' extensive network and brand recognition, sellers might find themselves with unparalleled exposure to a larger audience. Additionally, exclusive marketing opportunities and better profit margins could be just a few of the enticing perks awaiting them.
On the other side of the marketplace, crafting enthusiasts and buyers will have the chance to embark on a journey of discovery. MakerPlace is likely to host an impressive selection of handmade and unique items, carefully crafted with passion and expertise. For buyers who appreciate the charm of one-of-a-kind creations, MakerPlace might quickly become their favorite virtual crafting bazaar.
The arrival of MakerPlace could potentially redefine the crafting community as we know it. By bridging the gap between sellers and buyers in innovative ways, this marketplace might usher in a new era for independent artisans and small craft businesses. Its launch could also spark healthy competition among existing craft platforms, leading to an overall enhancement of services offered to crafters.
While there's still much to learn about MakerPlace, here is what we do know. MakerPlace will allow sellers to list their hand made crafts, create How-To’s and earn commission on supplies purchased through Michael’s affiliate links, as well as create virtual classes that they can teach to as little as 10 or as many as 100 people via Zoom.
Seller’s on MakerPlace also look forward to flexible plans to participate. The basic plan is free, the referral fee is only 4% per order and allows sellers to earn 3% on commissions for How-To’s and Classes, as well as Michael’s rewards purchases. The professional plan is $110 a year, referral fee drops to 2% and the How-To and classes Commission is bumped up to 6%. Classes are split 80% to 20% with the higher going to the instructor. Free accounts are limited to two classes per month, whereas professional accounts have unlimited classes and both receive Free Product listing and unlimited How-To Listings. Both pay a transaction fee of 3% + $0.20 which is about standard for this kind of service.
Account set up for seller’s is pretty simple with only 3 main graphics needed to start up your account. The banner graphic, logo and maker photo. If I had to name my one favorite thing about MakerPlace so far, it would be its simplicity. MakerPlace is what I would imagine a merger between Etsy and Twitter would look like, in that the design is robust but the word count is kept to a minimum. Keep It Simple is certainly the name of the game here at Makerplace where your standard product description is capped at roughly 512 characters unlike its marketplace counterparts.
Although there was a short time I spent waiting to be accepted, the account set up was a breeze. So much so that I’ve created a free Notion template to help you gather the information you’ll need for your shop set up prior to opening your account.
In the realm of crafting, MakerPlace is undoubtedly a beacon of hope and anticipation. With Michaels' reputable backing, this innovative marketplace holds immense potential to elevate crafters and delight crafting enthusiasts. I’m so excited about its grand reveal and can’t wait to see what it has to offer in the future. Check out our shop Rashel Made It on MakerPlace during the grand opening 1 August 2023 and feel free to follow us on our MakerPlace journey.
